Introduction

The Ghana Residence Permit grants to the foreigner authorization to reside in Ghana for a period, usually of more than 90days.

This Permit is issued by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) only. Also it is valid for 1year and it is renewed annually.

Why need a Residence Permit?

The Study Permit is issued to foreigners who want to enroll and study in a registered and accredited academic institution in Ghana and for no other reason.

Application Information

An application for a residence permit must be made in the prescribed form to the GIS. The applicant must be lawfully residing in Ghana at the date of the application.

The application must include a letter stating your personal details, reasons for the permit, and the period sought.

The applicant is required to submit a medical report from the GIS Clinic.

The GIS treats the renewal of an expired permit as a new application. Thus all Government fees remains the same.

Documentary Requirements

  • Filled Residence permit form.
  • Signed application letter from the school.
  • 2 recent passport pictures.
  • Valid original passport.
  • Valid non-citizen ID card from the NIA.
  •  Medical reports.
  • Copy of receipt showing payment of tuition fee.
  • Copy of admission letter.
  • 6months bank statement from the sponsor (in the case where applicant is a minor).
  •  Proof of relationship between minor applicant & sponsor.
  • Copy of school’s registration documents and or accreditation certificate.
  • 2 school staff as guarantors.

Permit will be ready within 3weeks.

Kindly Note**

  • Permit fee for ECOWAS citizens are different.
  • Renewal of Non-Citizen ID card is USD60.
  • Discount for permit renewal.
